Items to Bring to NYLT:

 

Participants will be carrying all personal equipment from the registration area to the campsites.  There will also be an overnight camp requiring a short hike to reach.  Participants must not use suitcases, footlockers or trunks.  Large duffels or backpacks are best.  A backpack and appropriate personal gear are required for the overnighter (one night).  Personal gear not required for the overnighter will be stored.

 

The following is a list of items each participant will need to have for the duration of the course.  This list is meant to provide essentials and is not all-inclusive. 

 

  • Complete Class A Uniform(s) (two uniforms/shirts are recommended if available)

    • Both long pants & shorts recommended

  • Neckerchief & neckerchief slide

  • Scout Activity Uniform(s) (change recommended if available)

   Note:  Students will receive two (2) NYLT  T-Shirts.

  • Underwear/undergarments (Multiple sets for 6 days)

  • Socks (Multiple sets for 6 days + Extra in case of rain)

  • Change(s) of clothing

  • Shoes or boots suitable for hiking (2 pairs recommended)

  • Rain Gear (poncho or rain gear)

  • Light Jacket

  • Pajamas/sleepwear

  • Towel(s) and Wash Cloth

  • Shampoo and Body Soap

  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste

  • Medications in labeled containers (to be given to the Medical ASM)

  • Backpack (suitable for overnight hike)

  • Sleeping  Bag

  • Foam Pad or Air Mattress (suitable for overnight hike)

  • Ground Cloth

  • Mess Kit with Utensils

  • Canteen, Water Bottle or Water Bladder

  • Flashlight and spare batteries

  • Personal First Aid Kit

  • Ballpoint Pen/Pencils

  • Boy Scout Handbook

  • Watch

  • Handkerchiefs

  • Sunscreen

  • Insect Repellant (will be needed every night)

  • Tent requirements:

    • Tents will be provided for all five nights of the course

    • Personal tents are not required for NYLT

 

Optional Items:

  • Long Sleeve Shirt – for evenings

  • Compass

  • Pillow

  • Change of shoes

  • Camp slippers

  • Shower footwear

  • Laundry Bag

  • Sunglasses

  • Religious book(s)

  • Books of camp songs, skits, etc.

  • Camera and film/memory card, batteries

  • Spare flashlight bulb

  • Other toiletries

  • Pocket notebook

  • Matches/firestarter

  • Scout Knife

  • Gloves (Work)

 

Items NOT to Bring to NYLT:

 

In keeping with a distraction-free camping environment, the following items should not be brought to camp for any reason:

 

  • Un-scout-like clothing

  • Sheath Knives, Large Blade Knives, or any Fixed Blade Knife

  • Electronics (including cell phones, games and MP3/  CD players)

    • Cell phones may be checked with the Staff

    • NOTE: Please inform parents that daily, routine access to personal cell phones should not be expected.

  • Fireworks or Aerosol Cans

  • Backpacking Stoves – these will be provided as required

  • Liquid or Gas Fuel of Any Kind – this will be provided as required

  • Glass Bottles

  • Weapons
