Staff Recruitment

Selecting qualified staff is vital to the success of every National Youth Leadership Training course. Recruiters should seek out potential staff members who possess enthusiasm, reliability, and a strong dedication to Scouting. 

 

Staff Expectations:

Staff will be required to attend multiple Staff development sessions beginning as much as 6 months prior to the beginning of the course. Each session is currently planned to be about 4-8 hours long on multiple weekends (Friday evening and Saturday morning) to help staff prepare for the demanding roles they will play on the course. You will be asked to commit a significant number of hours to help make the course a success. 

 

You will also be required to be on-site at the course location 2 - 3 days before the course begins for the final Staff Development and course setup. Be prepared, staffing can be very fun and rewarding, but it can also be a challenge.

 

Potential Staffers:

Staffing NYLT is invitation only, and it includes a selection process. If you feel you are ready to staff your first NYLT, ask your unit leader (Scoutmaster or Crew Advisor) to contact the course director.

 

Unit Leaders:

If you have a Scout or Scouter in your unit, who is qualified to be on staff, and you feel they are ready for the leadership challenge that comes with staffing a course such as this, please contact the course director with their name and contact information. 

 

The potential Scout will receive an electronic form to fill out, once they submit that form which includes their Unit Leader's information, a recommendation form will be sent to the unit leader for confirmation. At that time the candidate will go in a file ready for the next opportunity to staff and will be contacted again if their services are needed. 

 

Applying for a position on Staff (Youth & Adults)

Most of the time our staff is handpicked from previous courses and personal connections. If you have not received a personal invitation to staff on the current course, and you would like to let us know you are interested and want to staff, please fill out this form.  If we do not have a space for you on this course, we may need you for the next course.  

 

 

 

Staff Registration (Youth & Adults)

Once you have been selected to serve on staff, you will be asked to register. You will follow the same process as the participants and use the same application. The only difference is the Youth Protection Training for both Boy Scouts and Venturing is required and you will be shifted around to different pages that are only applicable to you (Youth & Adults).
